A moving one-woman performance and\u00a0multi-media installation which brings to life the hidden family narrative of poet-artist Seni Seneviratne and her father’s experiences as a Royal Signalman in the North African Desert War.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

At the heart of the story is a photo-album, the only surviving record of a friendship between two\u00a0signalmen: one Seni’s father, a young man from colonial\u00a0Ceylon, the other an unknown photographer. It explores her father\u2019s return from the war, his marriage to a Yorkshire woman and family life in Leeds.\u00a0<\/p>

\"\"<\/a>The show is based on the poetry collection Unknown Soldier<\/em>\u00a0(Peepal\u00a0Tree, 2019) by\u00a0Seneviratne\u00a0and forms part of the\u00a0Unknown Soldier Tour\u00a02023<\/em>. It has been created with direction consultancy by Amanda Huxtable, filming and editing by Gavin Repton, image and sound design\u00a0by James Waring, curation support by Melanie Abrahams, film and voice recordings by Rav Sanghera and Simon Marshall and production by Renaissance One.\u00a0Funded by Arts Council England.\u00a0<\/p>

Seni Seneviratne is a writer and an artist of English and Sri Lankan heritage who collaborates with\u00a0film-makers, visual artists and musicians.\u00a0Her poetry is featured in the AQA GCSE exam\u00a0syllabus\u00a0and she is published in anthologies and magazines, recently 100 Queer Poems (Penguin) and New England Review.\u00a0\u00a0She recently\u00a0co-edited\u00a0Out of Sri Lanka<\/em><\/strong>, a newly published\u00a0Bloodaxe anthology of Tamil, Sinhala and English poetry and she is working on an LGBTQ project with Sheffield Museums entitled\u00a0Queering the Archive<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0her fourth collection,\u00a0The Go-Away Bird\u00a0<\/em>was published in late 2023<\/p>
