This Sunday from 11-5, it’s Heritage Open Day at Wainsgate Chapel with lots to see and do including:
Creative map making and writing for all ages exploring the chapel and grounds with artists Amanda Allan and Jo Gorner and writer Amanda Dalton from 11.30-2.30;
A QR code trail around the graveyard and building all day discovering the histories of some of the fascinating people and objects here, so bring your smartphones;
The Wainsgate organ will be played by renowned organist Darius Battiwaller who has played with the likes of the BBC and London Philharmionic Orchestras at 3pm;
You can listen to recorded interviews with local people with projected images about Wainsgate’s past in the vestry;
Upstairs there will be a fun display about some of the people who’ve arrived to a departed from the area and you can map out your own or others journeys on the giant map there too;
Chris Barnett, who founded and maintains the Wainsgate Graveyard Project website will also be there to answer questions about people buried here and other aspects of the history of Wainsgate,
And last, but by no means least, there will be lots of delicious cakes, tea/coffee and prosecco and lively conversation in the Wainsgate cafe
