THE ALTERNATIVE SUNDAY SERMON
SUNDAY 14th SEPTEMBER 11am
No need to book – just turn up and pay-as-you-feel

Wainsgate’s new Alternative Sunday Sermon series invites artists, thinkers and performers to take to the pulpit, and propose something in place of a traditional sermon. It’s not about preaching – it’s about gathering. A space for ideas, for provocation, for presence.
Each one will be different. We’re figuring it out as we go. But expect something to think about, something to feel, with tea and home-made cake.
Our un-sermon’s were launched on Sunday 3rd August by artist and performer Sonia Hughes and it was a wonderful, and moving thing.
The next one that will be given by Tim Etchells on Sunday 14th September, followed by tea, cake and the 3rd of our Sunday Sessions – informal performance in the Sunday School with with Maya Carroll and Soul Roberts working with scores given by Charlie Morrissey with support from Siobhan Davies.

Tim Etchells (born 1962 in the UK) is an acclaimed artist, writer, writer-performer, and the founding artistic director of the experimental theatre company Forced Entertainment, established in Sheffield in 1984. His work blurs boundaries between performance, visual art, installation, text and fiction, and has been exhibited and performed at major international venues, including Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, and biennales across Europe and beyond.
Etchells is also a published fiction writer (“Endland,” “The Broken World”).
His diverse practice explores language, presence, liveness, and the dynamics of everyday behaviour within theatrical and institutional settings.
Sound will be played live by Manchester based composer and conductor Jack Sheen.
