Free early evening events for headline recital ticket holders
Before the evening performance at the Jazz Café, why not treat yourself to a freshly-cooked supper in the pop-up bistro at Wainsgate. We will be serving delicious French themed plats du jour (including vegetarian and vegan options) with dessert at £20pp. Saturday and Sunday 6-7.30pm. Menu & Booking info nearer the time.
PLEASE NOTE: All three Jazz Café events are free but ticketed (numbers are restricted in the Sunday School room). Priority will be given to headline recital attendees who will be offered tickets at time of purchase, though some may be available each evening on the door depending on uptake.

Peadar Long and Dave Nelson
Peadar Long plays saxophones, whistles, bagpipes and bass clarinet and has had a distinguished career in both the folk and jazz worlds, with Celestial Echoes, the award-winning Kitsyke Will and innumerable other bands up and down the country. Along with pianist Dave Nelson, Peadar was also a founder member of local world-jazz legend Tongue & Groove – starting off in 1992 as a duo and expanding to three, four, five and then eight musicians before settling on a quintet over a couple of decades. For this concert the original duo will be airing some of their favourite compositions from that time.

Ruth Gardziel Trio: Setting Standards
The Ruth Gardziel Trio brings together two of the most experienced musicians in the Calder Valley to showcase the remarkable voice of Ruth Gardziel. Ruth, who has previously fronted rock bands The Fevertrees and ZefR, now brings her powerful sensuous vocal talents to a different repertoire, ranging from cool jazz to blues and soul. Ably supported by the respected jazz pianist Dave Nelson and the highly versatile guitarist Les Gillon, Ruth Gardziel brings her unique interpretation of classic jazz and blues songs from the trad, swing and bebop era made famous by artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, Fats Waller and many more.

Ruth Gardziel Trio: Everything is Jazz
Singer Ruth Gardziel, guitarist Les Gillon and pianist Dave Nelson with a rich programme of tunes from the modern age of jazz. These include songs sung by the likes of Nina Simone, Shirley Bassey and Etta James, but also the trio’s own unique arrangements of some more unlikely songs including ones by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, KD Lang, Gregory Porter and the Animals.
