The past is still here.

Wainsgate holds more than 250 years of history: faith, dissent, work, music, family, community, argument, celebration and change. You can see some of it in the building, some in the graveyard and archives, and some of it survives in people’s memories and stories.

We’re interested in all of it.

But Wainsgate’s history hasn’t stopped. People are still gathering here, making things, practising, eating, talking, listening, celebrating and disagreeing. Artists are making new work in rooms that have been used by generations of people before them.

For us, looking after Wainsgate means finding ways to understand and share its past while continuing to add to it.

This is a very old place. It’s also a place where things are happening now.
