Lewis Pugh and Henry Parker (double header)

“A really excellent young guitarist/songwriter” Steve Tilston
Singer/guitarist Henry Parker has a contemporary take on folk music, which he explores via thoughtful yet deeply accomplished guitar playing which unfurls and moves much like the landscape itself – mirroring the unpredictable, yet beautifully flowing, rolling hills and valleys of his native county of West Yorkshire.

Ewan D Rodgers

Ewan D. Rodgers
“A fine singer, an exceptional guitar and banjo picker, and a more than capable squeezer of concertina and melodeon” fRoots Magazine
Ewan D. Rodgers is a folk singer, guitarist and banjo player from another age. Originally from the Calder Valley but now based in Suffolk, Ewan is a natural re-interpreter, drawing influences from a wide range of traditional sources to create music that evokes the forgotten struggles and joys of individuals, whilst illustrating the universality of human experience. From Ewan’s live performances you can expect stripped-back folk and blues, dust-covered ballads and the occasional disgruntled sounding rag.
“Although he quotes as many Americans as Brits as influences, it’s clear that Rodgers is an old school British folk singer, first, last and always” Maverick magazine
Saturday July 19 6pm £5
Becky Taylor and Sam Lawrence

“A most amazing set of music and song – anyone not here tonight has missed one of the best sessions available. They are superb.”
Becky Taylor is a highly talented player of the Uilleann and Northumbrian pipes and many other instruments, and Sam Lawrence is a wizard on stringed instruments and brings a varied selection of songs to the table. What’s more, they can swap at will and bring in whistles, accordion, hurdy-gurdy, mandolin, bouzouki and more! There’ll be jigs, reels, songs and plenty of good natured chat in between.
Sunday July 20 at 1pm £5
Katie Spencer

Like a musical weaver she threads her poetic lyrics through the guitar’s strings and produces little tapestries of song.”– Ralph McTell
Raised in the East Yorkshire flatlands on the fringes of Hull, Katie Spencer’s landscape has always been that of open skies and widening rivers. Her songwriting, and most notably her guitar playing stems from a time when the steel-stringed instrument was truly finding its voice. Artists like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and perhaps most evidently Michael Chapman, flow into her sound, carrying with them the warmth and idealism of the early 70’s folk and songwriter movements.
“Katie’s guitar playing has echoes of my dear friend the late great Bert Jansch. Like a musical weaver she threads her poetic lyrics through the guitar’s strings and produces little tapestries of song.”– Ralph McTell
Sunday July 20 2.30pm £5
Les Gillon and the Agents of Karma

“… achingly beautiful moving & funny too…” The Grayston Unity
“Integrity, passion, skill, artistry…” Jason Foster, Immersive Artist
Les Gillon is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who brings together a group of outstanding musicians from the worlds of jazz, classical and folk music. The result is a unique sound, sometimes intimate, sometimes cinematic, that defies categorisation and underpins the lyrical intensity of the songs, which delve into the personal and political realms with equal depth and insight. With Andrew Duncan (percussion), Jen Trott (violin, vocals), Julia Farrants (cello) and Dave Nelson (piano, vocals)
Sunday July 20 from 6pm £5
Peaceworks Ceilidh
The final event of the weekend is a ceilidh with Hebden Bridge-based band Peaceworks and expert caller Rosie Barford. Peaceworks varies considerably in size but its usual line-up features accordions, fiddles and whistles with a rhythm section of guitar/banjo, piano, bass and percussion. Lots of high-energy jigs and reels plus the occasional ballad whilst everyone gets their breath back!
With support from Hebden Bridge youth folk group Jiggerie Folkerie
