BABAK MIRSALARI

Babak Mirsalari is an Iranian composer and sound designer based in Hebden Bridge. His work uses keys, synthesisers, drum machines, field recordings and film aesthetics to tell stories.

His upcoming EP, Leave to Remain is an autobiographical piece drawing on south-western Iranian rhythms, moving through his childhood in Iran, his arrival in the music scene of northern England, and the Yorkshire hills he now lives among.

Other recent work includes his collaboration Memory Stone, a film installation with filmmaker Nikta Mohammadi, which explores spatialised sound and music in a film questioning the idea of the British countryside as an idyll. He worked on it as composer, sound designer and performer. Alongside this he leads community-based music workshops across the North, work that feeds directly back into his own writing.

Babak holds a studio at Wainsgate. As part of the Wainsgate Series he is running a folk-song workshop on 22nd August.
