an hour for drawing and mark-making in the company of others, to a daily-changing music playlist.
Open Drawing is an hour for drawing and mark-making in the company of others, to a daily-changing music playlist.
It’s a space to tune into the day through drawing — no experience needed, just curiosity and openness. This isn’t a taught session: you lead your own time, following intuition alongside others doing the same.
Each week there’s a simple drawing prompt to get you started if you want one — feel free to ignore it. Drawing can extend far beyond pencil and paper, so bring tools you enjoy, or something you’ve never tried before. You might not think of yourself as someone who draws, but we all make marks and leave traces.
Open Drawing is a space to develop practice, but also to play, experiment, and explore the unfamiliar. Draw first, think later.
The nitty-gritty
£2 minimum donationMonday–Friday, 9–10am (doors open 8.50am) in the Assembly Room.
Playlist runs for 60 minutes from 9am
Come often or occasionally. It’s fine to arrive late or leave early — please do so considerately.
Please bring your own materials. If your practice involves tidying or cleaning, allow time for this. Be mindful of how we share space. Open Drawing is a chat-, phone- and computer-free space.
No on-site parking, but there is parking nearby on Old Town Mill Lane.
Access
Open Drawing takes place on the ground floor at Wainsgate in an accessible space.
Wainsgate is working to improve accessibility, but there is more to do. The venue is reached via an uneven track and is not currently wheelchair accessible. There is disabled parking nearby and a ramp giving step-free access to the ground floor where Open Drawing takes place. Two gender-neutral toilets are available, one fully accessible.
If you have any questions about access, please get in touch via [email protected]
